Full-grain vegetable-tanned hides, cut one panel at a time and saddle-stitched with waxed linen thread.
We opened this workshop in a quiet corner of Seongsu-dong because we wanted a place where leather goods could be made the slow way. Every bag, wallet, and belt that leaves the bench is saddle-stitched entirely by hand — two needles, one length of waxed thread, each hole pricked with an iron and sewn in a locking cross that never unravels the way a machine seam does. A single tote can hold four hundred stitches, and we would rather set them right than set them fast.
The leather itself is chosen before anything is cut. We work almost entirely in full-grain vegetable-tanned hides — leather cured slowly over weeks in pits of oak and chestnut bark rather than in a day of chrome salts. It arrives firm, honey-pale, and completely natural, with the grain, healed scars, and range marks of the animal left intact. We cut around the flaws, fold and burnish every raw edge by hand, and saddle- soap the panels before the first stitch goes in.
What you carry home is only the beginning of the piece. Vegetable-tanned leather takes on a patina — it darkens, softens, and picks up a deep amber glow from your hands, the sun, and everywhere it travels. A wallet that starts the color of straw will read like aged whisky in a year. Most made-to-order goods take two to four weeks, depending on the piece and how busy the bench is. A wallet or card holder is quicker; a fully lined bag with hardware takes longer. We'll give you a firm lead time before you commit, and keep you posted as it moves through cutting, stitching, and finishing.
